Keyboard shortcuts
Here is the list of the main keyboard shortcuts available in Notepan.
-
The shortcuts displayed below are for Windows. If you are on MacOS, replace the
Ctrl
key with theCmd
key instead. -
Some functionalities have 2 shortcuts in order to give you an alternative in case a key doesn't exist on your keyboard (for example
Insert
key doesn't exist on Mac, so we propose youEnter
as a second option).

Notation
Notes | 0-9 |
Ding | D |
Ding tonefield | DD* |
Palm mute | P |
Tak (Ding shoulder) | T |
Fist | F |
Slap | S |
Knock | K |
Ghost note | • |
Octave harmonic | O |
Fifth harmonic | H |
Muted note | M |
Finger roll | R |
Grace note / Flam | G |
DD* : Double press the D
key. Press again to switch back and forth between ding and ding tonefield notation.
-
You can also use the
0
key instead ofD
for ding and ding tonefield notations. This is particularly useful is you are using a numpad as it saves you from moving your hands all over the keyboard. When used after another number,0
will act as a number as well (to write 10 and 20). -
On the numpad,
*
can be used instead ofS
for Slap. Again, it is more convenient thanks to the proximity with the numeric keys.
Playback
Play / Pause the playback | Space |
Enable / disable loop | F7 |
Enable / disable the count-in | F8 |
Enable / disable the metronome | F9 |
Increase playback speed* | + |
Decrease playback speed* | - |
*Only works during playback. When not in playback, these shortcuts do something different instead (see the Tablature editor shortcuts).
